Japanese Particles (助詞)

Particles are small words that come after nouns, verbs, or phrases to show their role in the sentence. They are the grammar glue of Japanese. Getting particles wrong changes the entire meaning of a sentence.

は vs が — The big question

Talks about something already known. Contrasts or sets a topic. “As for X...”

Introduces new information. Answers “who?” or “what?” Emphasizes the subject.
