Frequently asked questions about using Japanese Foreigner
How do I get started?
Sign up for a free account to access all N5 content. Once logged in, go to Browse to start studying vocabulary, kanji, grammar, or reading passages. Use Flashcards to review what you've learned.
What's included in the free plan?
The free plan includes all N5 content: 712 vocabulary words, 106 kanji, grammar points, and reading passages. You also get flashcards and progress tracking.
How do I upgrade to Premium?
Go to the Pricing page and choose either Monthly ($2/month) or Yearly ($20/year). Click "Subscribe" and you'll be taken to a secure checkout page to enter your payment details.
How do I use a promotion code?
On the checkout page, look for the "Add promotion code" link below the plan summary. Click it, enter your code, and the discount will be applied before you complete payment. If you have a code for a 100% free subscription, you won't need to enter any payment details.
How do I change or cancel my subscription?
Go to Account > Subscription and click "Manage Subscription". This opens a portal where you can switch between monthly and yearly plans, update your payment method, or cancel.
What do the word status colors mean?
Each word can be marked as New (not started), Studying (currently learning), or Learnt (mastered). Click the status indicator on any word to cycle through these states. Your progress is saved automatically.
Can I study on my phone?
Yes. The app is designed to work on mobile browsers. Just visit the site on your phone and log in with your account.
How do I reset my password?
Click "Forgot password?" on the login page and enter your email. You'll receive a link to set a new password. The link expires after 1 hour.
How do I delete my account?
Go to Account > Security and scroll to the bottom. Click "Delete Account" and confirm with your password. This permanently removes all your data.
What JLPT levels are covered?
All five levels: N5 (beginner) through N1 (advanced). N5 is available on the free plan. N4, N3, N2, and N1 require a Premium subscription.
